Mark John Ramey, 52, died Tuesday November 22nd, 2010 after a battle with an in-operable brain tumor. Mark was very private about his condition, he was just that way. Mark could be a passionate man, very giving to those less fortunate, most recently a homeless man he encountered along the river walk on his early morning walks with his best friend "knucklehead".
He grew up playing baseball, basketball, bowling, pool and ice hockey (at an old swamp ground which is now Northgate Village Apts). He and his childhood friend (Dave Colescott) could play one on one in anything, even weather not permitting, it would be one on one in the house with a metal coat hanger for a rim hanging on top of a door and hundreds of rubber bands stretched around a wad of newspapers.
His favorite movies: Lean on Me w/ Morgan Freeman, My Cousin Vinny w/ Joe Pesci, Outlaw Josey Whales w/ Clint Eastwood.
Mark was a true arm-chair sports fan. Hockey was his favorite along with college basketball, NFL, and the Cubs. He was also somewhat of a musician. Although as a soloist he enjoyed playing the Trumpet, Guitar, Piano and Harmonica. He also enjoyed writing poetry. His favorite one from when his son was born (1977).
THE SUN SHINES BRIGHT UPON US, THE FLOWERS BRIGHT AND GAY, THE BEES ARE FULL OF LAUGHTER, THE CHILDREN FULL OF PLAY. LEAVES FLOAT BRISKLY THROUGH THE FIELD, THE WIND CARRIES THEM AWAY. WE HUDDLE AMONG THE WATER, WE PRAY FOR ANOTHER DAY, A DAY SO MUCH LIKE THIS ONE, PEACE AND LOVE IS WHAT I SAY.
Mark worked at the Plaza Bowling Alley as a teen, prepping lanes and score tables for the adult leagues and pool hall attendant on weekends. He graduated in 1976 from MHS. After serving in the U.S. Army, he attended I.U.Kokomo for 2 years, and was a hodcarrier for his Brickmason father. He sold fertilizer to local farmers for "Na-Churs Plant Food Company", Marion, Ohio. He then joined Carpenters Local #365 in 1985. He was currently a 25 year member of Carpenters Local #615.
Mark was born in Danbury, Conn to John Frances Ramey and Marcella June Harter. He is survived by his mother Marcella Ramey, his son Shay Anthony Ramey (Kym), Marion. Granddaughters, Cassandra Aeris and Samantha Joelle. Brother, Stephen (Cathy), Summitville. Sisters, Paula Berg, Marion and Debbie (Kieth) Hoss, Stuart Florida. His Companion of 15 years, Vicktoria Purvis, Marion and her children: Brent (Angela) Purvis , Marion, and Daughter Julie Purvis, San Diego and best friend "Knucklehead".
He was preceded in death by his father John Francis and his daughter Cassie Marie.
