Martha K. Kimes

March 20, 1917 — July 10, 2009

MARTHA K. KIMES, age 92, of Marion, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at home.

She was born on March 20, 1917, in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of the late Jess and Bell (Johnson) Carr. She was a resident of Grant County her entire life. On December 30, 1939, she married Frank M. Kimes. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1985.

Martha enjoyed knitting, word search puzzles, watching basketball games, especially the Pacers and Indiana University and talking on the phone with many of her friends. She retired in 1983 from St. Regis Paper Company where she was employed for 32 years. After retirement, she was a demo lady in grocery stores, a job she enjoyed as she liked meeting people. She was a strong individual, proud to be able to maintain her independence even though she had been ill for many years. She was a member of the Unity Christian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Key (Jay) and a son, Richard Kimes (Roxie); five granddaughters, Kristi Harrold (Christian), Kathi Baker (Rick), Lisa Key (Kevin Lint), Robin Eastes and Rhonda Boone. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Evan Baker who was her pride and joy, 6 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lois Carr.

She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Gearld Carr (Edith) and Eugene Carr.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 13 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Reverends Nanci Rosinski and Rick Jett officiating.

Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Indiana.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.

The family sincerely requests that memorial contributions be made to the Scholarship Fund at Unity Christian Church, 140 N. Pennsylvania, Marion, Indiana 46952.
