MARTHA JEAN OATESS, age 87, died early Tuesday morning at Wesleyan Health Care Center of Marion following an extended illness.
Martha born on October 14, 1922, to Ernest and Winnie Coolman of Van Buren. In 1941, she married Paul E. Oatess of Marion who preceded her in death in 1992.
Martha was assistant manager of the W.T. Grant Company of Marion until it went out of business in the eighties. She was also employed part-time at the J.C. Penney Company until her health declined. She was a fifty plus-year member of the Order of Eastern Stars in Van Buren and also once served as their Worthy Matron.
She is survived by one sister, Margaret Craw of Fairmount; three sons, Stephen (Janet) of Converse, Ted (Anne) of Marion, and John (Paula) also of Marion. She was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County, Indiana.
There will be no visitation.
