Mary Ellen Emmons, age 97, of Marion, passed away Wednesday morning December 6, 2017 at the Parker Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Parker City, Indiana.
She was born in Parke County, Indiana to James and Nina (Calloway) Hutton in 1920, but lived most of her life in Marion and Van Buren, Indiana.
She worked as a car hop at Myers Drive-In in Marion when she went to Marion High School, where she was a star athlete. She worked as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone in Marion. She later worked at Farnsworth (RCA) where she met her future husband. She married Lamoine F. Emmons on July 13, 1946 in Van Buren. Mary later worked at Appliance Manufacturing (Van Buren) in Quality Control. She retired from Sears Roebuck in 1982.
Mary loved word games and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed hand sewing. She was a dear friend to many people and enjoyed helping anyone who needed it.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Paul and Gerald Hutton.
Mary is survived by a son, James L. (Margaret Sue) Emmons of Lagro, Indiana; a daughter, Sue Gordy (Geoff Sanders) of Selma, Indiana; 4 grandchildren, Duane Emmons of Lagro, Mary J. Emmons of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jacinda (Emmons) Huscher of Great Falls, Montana and Eric Stout of Dublin, California; 5 great-grandchildren, Ariel, Kirsten and Austin Pinkerton and Jacob and Adam Stout; and one great-great grandchild, Lilly Ranieri.
Mary’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be no visitation or funeral services.
