Mary E. Fortney, age 94, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Rolling Meadows Health Care Center, LaFontaine.
Mary was born March 24, 1920, in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of the late Claude and Hazel (Ford) Butterfield.
Mary worked at Delta during WWII, where she met Eugene Fortney whom she married on December 2, 1945. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2008. She was also a secretary for Marion Community Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1980. After retirement, she worked 7 years as a teacher's aide.
She was an involved member of First Church of God in Marion. She spent her life taking care of her family, cooking and sewing. She loved to play Solitaire and loved animals, especially her dogs Cooper and Patches. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her great joy and she loved them all deeply.
Survivors include: four sons, David Fortney of Marion, Indiana, Dr. Dan (Annie) Fortney of Arlington, Virginia, Phil (Cindy) Fortney of Marion, Indiana, and Bill (Judy) Fortney of Marion, Indiana; sister, Evelyn Fortney of Marion, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, Jason Fortney, Claire Fortney, Laura Fortney, Jeramy Fortney, Bobby Browder (Kory) and Jonathon Fortney; & 4 great-grandchildren, Evan Browder, Ella Browder, Aiden Fortney and Jeran Fortney.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bob Butterfiled.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015, at First Church of God, 450 West 50th Street, Marion, Indiana with Pastors Tom South and Bill Fulda officiating.
Burial will follow funeral services in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 30, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
