Maud E. Davis

MAUD E. DAVIS, age 86, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Heritage Pointe, Warren, Indiana.

She was born on May 22, 1923, in Huntington County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Jesse and Bettie (Maxwell) Scherer. She married James E. Davis on June 15, 1946. He preceded her in death February 11, 1972.

Maud earned her Bachelors Degree from Ball State Teacher's College. She then taught for Marion Community Schools for 7 years and also worked at the Marion Public Library for 13 1/2 years as librarian.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion for over 70 years; and a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) where she was active in International Relations and their Book Club Groups. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include daughter, Wendy E. Davis (James Wirtanen) of Lake Bluff, Illinois; son, Todd S. Davis (Janice) of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Betty Oatess of Dekalb, Illinois; four grandsons, Kyle Davis (Danielle) of Wilmington, Illinois, Dr. Justin Davis (Jennie) of Lexington, Kentucky, Jordan Davis (Ashley) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Chad Davis of Iowa City, Iowa; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Lei.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bookout.

Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel, 801 Huntington Avenue, Warren, Indiana, with Chaplain John Pattison officiating.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5 at Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel prior to the Memorial Service.
