Michael L. Taylor

April 23, 1959 — July 26, 2018

Please join us to celebrate the life of Michael Taylor our husband, dad and papaw on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.

Michael was born in Frankfort, Indiana on April 23, 1959 the son of the late Roy Linn and Patricia Joann (Conrad) Taylor.  His family moved to Marion to their home on E00W where he grew up.  He graduated in 1977 from Eastbrook High School with his GED and loved playing sports, especially basketball and football.  He was a three time national amateur speed roller skating champion.  He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1968.  This spring it was his 50th year with this disease, but that never slowed him down ever.

We were married on August 25, 1989 in our back yard which was Roy and Pat’s house first, and then ours.  We had Katelinn Elizabeth and she gave us our first granddaughter Carter Elizabeth.  Michael loved that girl!  They called each other goofball!

Michael went into the plastering business with his dad in 1990 “Roy Taylor Plastering” which he continued until 2006.  We always had fun together.  Michael’s first trip to Florida all he did for the longest time was to set on the balcony for hours staring at the ocean.  Michael bowled for years in several leagues around town and bowled a 284 high game at Plaza Bowl.  He won the Moose State Tournament in Bloomington for the Gas City Moose.

Our long time love was camping at Hidden Lake for 20 years.  We had the best spot up there, just ask anyone!  Mike was known for his horseshoe playing and golf cart racing championships!

He was a Dallas Cowboys fan from the beginning.  He knew and loved the Cowboys like no other.  He also loved Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football and the Los Angeles Lakers were his other favorite.

In February 2017, he was diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) and started on dialysis.  His first treatment was hemodialysis at Fresenius Medical Care and then peritoneal dialysis at home.  Special thanks to Gretchen, Beth and Dana.  Home dialysis was every night 10 hours a day.  We were a team every night with his treatments.  Katelinn and Carter were a lot of help with Michael and he called Katelinn “Muscles”.  We had our cats Stinky and Sleepy and his dog Jazz at home to keep him company while I worked.

My great family of friends in Pediatrics the past 40 years, Karen, Kathie, Joy, Mary, Barb and Dr. Jesch kept me going with their love, care and friendship.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; a daughter, Katelinn; and granddaughter, Carter Elizabeth.  He also has numerous cousins and family members in Marion and Grant County.

Thanks to all the friends out there that knew Michael and were touched by him.  We had a great life together and he was loved!
