Miriam I. Young

July 23, 1929 — June 23, 2009

MIRIAM I. YOUNG, age 79, daughter of Glenn B. and Albertia C. (VanLue) Smith; went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 3:19 p.m.

Mrs. Young was married to Phillip E. Young on August 28, 1948 and shared 56 years and 8 months together. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2005.

Miriam worked at Farm Bureau Co-op, then moved to Washington State. While in Washington State, she was employed by the Governor's Council on Aging; her husband, Phillip was in Army Security at Fort Lewis. At the end of the tour, they returned to Indiana. She worked as office manager at W.T. Grant Company; and also for Resnecks. Her last position was as Personnel Clerk for the Dietetics Department at the VA Hospital in Marion. She retired from that position.

Miriam was one of the original members of the Grant Co. Repeater Society. She was also a member of the Audobon Bird Club. Phillip and Miriam were avid motorcyclists, traveling all over the States, as well as Canada. Miriam was a member of West Eighth Street Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include daughter, Lynda Young of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two grandchildren, Eva and Phillip E. Young II; and 4 great-grandchildren, Charles III, Kevin and Tristin all of Kentucky and Ivy, of Indiana.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Roger Allen Young on March 9, 1995; and a brother, Glenn A. Smith.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Reverend Ben Gray officiating.

Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Indiana.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time Friday at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
