Oreda Murphy

Oreda Murphy, age 93, of Marion passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 in her home.

Oreda was born on October 8, 1929, in Denney, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Marvin and Pearlie (Whitehead) Phillips.  She married James W. Murphy on April 20, 1968, and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1977.  Oreda worked in production at Farnsworth Radio and then RCA until her retirement.

Oreda loved making handmade quilts and put out the most beautiful garden every year.  She loved traveling with her side-kick and best friend, her niece, Joyce Libby.  She was a member of Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Marion.

She is survived by two sons, Tony Murphy of Marion and Tony Ridenbaugh of Van Cleave, Mississippi; two daughters, Sharon Ybarra and Brenda (Ron) Dilley (both of Marion); 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews.

Oreda was also preceded in death by a son, Ron Hill; a daughter, Linda Beaman; brothers, Lloyd Phillips, Ray Phillips, Willard Phillips, Glen Phillips, Coyle Phillips and Boyd Phillips; and two sisters, Lena Worley and Sonya Wallace.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice, her nurse, Kimmi, and her aide, Taylor who all went above and beyond with their compassionate care shown to Oreda and our family.

Memorial contributions can be made to Grant County Cancer Services of Grant County, 305 S. Norton Avenue, Tower Suites, Marion, Indiana 46952.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Charlie Sluss officiating.

Burial will follow funeral services in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
