Otis Earl Miller

June 16, 1922 — August 20, 2011

Otis Earl Miller, age 89, passed away at 10:15 AM Saturday at Unit 172 1B, Palliative Care Unit, VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, Marion, Indiana with his family at his side.

Earl lived in his residence in Washington Township; less than 2 miles away from his birth place for the last 50 years.

Earl was born June 16, 1922 in Washington Township, Grant County, Indiana the son of the late Otis Burr and Susie May (Shockey) Miller.

Earl was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII with the 65th transportaion coprs Harbor Craft Company at Batangas, Philippines Islands as a marine engineer. He was a sergeant receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

Earl raised livestock and farmed since he was old enough to help on the family farm. He also did fence contracting work in the surrounding area, running his own business for 40 years, retiring at age 72. At age 66 he designed and built his own home. Through the years he enjoyed, working with wood crafts, gardening, walking and he loved animals. Earl was an avid Pacer fan.

Earl married Margaret Jean Major July 14, 1945. Margaret passed away in 1972. They had four daughters, Sandra Allison, Darlene Miller, Patty Hale, Kathy (Marty) Brooks. Grandchildren, Lisa Christensen, Hartford City , Jerry (Julie) Borders, Elburz, Nevada, Jason Whitaker, Marion, IN, Anita Metzger, Goshen, IN, Michael A. Hale, Marion, IN, Joshua Whitaker, Marion, IN, Christina Yoke, Marion, IN. 10 Great Grandchildren and One Great-great-grandchild. ,

Earl married Shirley Williams in 1979 and she passed away in 1997.

Additional survivors include his brother Max (Linda) Miller, Pennville. Sister, Marylin (Joe) ZeBelle, Yorktown, IN, 6 Nieces and nephews and his "Best Friend" Red #2.

In addition to his parents and two wives he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert T. Miller and Fred W. Miller, Son-in-law Michael B. Hale, special friend, Juanita (Good) Miller, Great Grand-daughter, Adrienne Kay Borders and "Best Friend" Red#1..

Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 25, 2011 in Raven-Choate Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Mansbarger officiating.

Full Military Rites will be conducted and burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home.
