Patty L. Stout, 78, left our world for a better one this past Sunday afternoon. She was the daughter of Edgar and Mary Satterfield of Sunbury, Ohio.
She held a BS in Music Education from Otterbein University and a MA in Music from Ball State University. The love of her life, other than her husband, Clair, who has been in Heaven for the past 5 years, was teaching. She adored children of all ages, and had an incredible gift of filling their hearts with a lifelong love of music. "You hoo, Mrs. Stout" was often sung to her from across grocery stores or the mall decades after the singer had last seen said educator in the classroom. Mrs. Stout would smile, laugh, and sing it back, always getting the former student's name correct, though she'd taught hundreds of children each year for over 45 years.
She was named Indiana State Music Educator of the Year many times during her career with Marion Community Schools. Not only was she a classically-trained opera singer, but also an accomplished pianist, and a pretty darned good artist, too.
Patty was a member of Temple Congregational Church, Indiana Music Educators Association, Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, Lyric Club, and Best Years Singers (and probably tons of other music-related groups that her daughter doesn't remember). She performed in several Marion Civic Theatre productions over the years, as well as playing first chair clarinet with the Indiana Wesleyan University's student/adult band.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Stout) Burk, Son-in-law Brad Burk, and grandchildren Isabel, Patrick, Phoebe, and Finnegan Burk; a sister, Barbara Nuckles of Hanford, CA; niece Denise Nuckles of Hanford , CA and nephew Dennis Nuckles of Palmdale, CA.
Funeral Services for Patty will be held Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Temple Congregational Church, 1006 N. Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. with a service to follow at 11 a.m. If you are able to attend, please consider wearing something purple - it was Patty's favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity in her name would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
