Paul Raymond Shrock, 88, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, August 31, 2013.
Born on March 31, 1925 in Marion, he was the son of the late W. Everett and Ruth (Brumley) Shrock. He was a 1943 graduate of Marion High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Army on June 24, 1943 and was inducted on July 10, 1943. On June 18, 1944 he married Elizabeth Ann Masterson also of Marion. Initially assigned to Texas A & M Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP), Shrock was later assigned to the Twelfth Armored Division, 66th Armored Infantry Battalion, Company B and saw extensive action in France and Germany. He was awarded a Bronze Star. He returned to Marion from the armed services in March 1946 and enrolled in the Indiana Business College in Marion. On completion of his study, in January 1947 he and Murray Holliday formed a business partnership. Shrock worked as a licensed public accountant and was senior partner in the firm of Shrock, Bonta, and Ewer from which he retired in 1990. He was an active member of First Friends Church in Marion and the Van Buren American Legion #365. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, fine music, and was an avid reader.
Survivors include wife, Elizabeth; son Randall (Alice) of Richmond, Indiana; Tom (Dixie) of Indianapolis; Anne Shrock Ott (John) of Churubusco, Indiana; and five grandchildren (Amy and Rachel Shrock, Kathryn Shrock, Sam and Jennie Ott). Other survivors include his brother, James Robert Shrock (Mary), of Swayzee and three sister-in-laws, Jane Simmons, Carolyn (James) Harvey, and Letty Masterson.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul Richard Shrock, and a special cousin, Philip Van Shrock.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 Friday September 6, 2013, in Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana, with Pastor Dane Leitch and Pastor Bob Garra officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana following funeral services.
Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 and one hour prior to funeral services on Friday, September 6, 2013.
