Pauline Edna Marler

Pauline Edna Marler, age 87, a resident of Marion, Indiana for 80 years and Lenoir City, Tennessee for the past 7 years, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Lenoir City.

She is survived by her family: Stephanie & Robert H. Foster, Vonore, Tennessee; Jon R. & Rebecca L. Marler, Syracuse, Indiana; grandchildren, Michelle & Michael Costantino, New York, New York, Robert M. & Nicole Foster, Budd Lake, New Jersey, Jon R. Marler, Jr., Syracuse, Indiana, Jason Marler, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Scott Marler, Indianapolis, Indiana; and two great-grandchildren, Robert M. Foster and Alyson Rose Foster.

Mrs. Marler was born in Marion, Indiana on August 5, 1925. She was married to her husband, Robert B. Marler, for 50 years until his death in 1997. She was a long time active member, Deacon and Elder of the United Presbyterian Church in Marion, Indiana and transferred her membership to the Lenoir City, Tennessee Presbyterian Church when she became a Tennessee resident.

Mrs. Marler was a nurse's aide during WWII, worked for 10 years as a travel agent for AAA and a buyer and manager of a gift shop until her retirement. She was active in the General Federation of Women's Clubs and served as the Indiana State Secretary. She was an avid reader and created and operated the "Bookstop" program, a personal delivery service of library books to shut-ins, for which she received the Indiana Library Association's Citizen's Award in 1978. She believed one should always strive to do their best and to leave the world in some way better through volunteering. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Private family graveside services and burial will be held in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana with Reverend Peg Harker officiating.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Community Foundation of Grant County, C/O the Marler Scholarship Fund, 505 West Third Street, Marion, Indiana 46952.
