Philip M. Gipson, age 81, of Marion, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Philip was born on February 1, 1929, in Marion, Indiana, the son of the late Charles and Ella (Lawrence) Gipson. He married Wilberta "Billie" Paulus on April 17, 1955. She survives.
Philip was a graduate of Marion High School in 1947. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a firefighter for the Marion Fire Department for 20 years, retiring in 1978. He then went to work for the County Highway Department for 11 years, and retired in 1994.
Philip attended Grace Community Church, and was a member of the Samaratan Lodge #105 F&AM; the American Legion Post #10; and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne.
Survivors include: wife, Billie Gipson of Marion, Indiana; two daughters, Ellen Chenoweth (Brad) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Sheri Williams of Marion, Indiana; three grandchildren, Ryan M. Chenoweth (Steph), Eric M. Chenoweth, and Shay Williams; one great-grandson, Chase M. Chenoweth, and his beloved dog "Bubba".
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Ronald Gipson and Buddy Frank Gipson.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2010, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with the Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.
Burial will be in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Masonic Rites will be held at 5:00 p.m.
