Reverend L. "George" Hostetter, age 85, of Marion, received his greatest reward at 6:32 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010, and is now at home with his Savior.
George was born March 3, 1925, in Pike County, Indiana, the son of the late William and Modie (Craig) Hostetter. He married Sue Davis on December 28, 2002. She survives.
He was a Signalman Third Class in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving during WWII in the South Pacific. His ship carried the first Allied troops to land on Japanese soil.
Reverend Hostetter pastored Methodist churches throughout Indiana for 35 years in the towns of: Hazelton, Mount Olypmus, Francisco, Moran, Kilmore, Whitestown, Royal Center, White Oak, Southlawn, Yeoman, and most recently at the Fairmount United Methodist Church until his retirement.
He was a member of the Northern Indiana Conference of United Methodist Churches; the Masonic Lodge #635, Fairmount; the Lions Club; the Kiwanis Club; and Kappa Ki (Preacher's of Christ). George enjoyed collecting pens and pencils, but most cherished his leadership role and interaction with people during his many years of ministry.
Survivors include: wife, Sue Hostetter of Marion, Indiana; three sons, Dennis A. Hostetter (Jo Ellen) of Fremont, Indiana, Pastor John C. Hostetter (Kathy) of Rensselaer, Indiana, and Paul D. Hostetter of Warsaw, Indiana; three step-daughters, Pamela S. Wilson (Steve) of Marion, Indiana, Karen J. Maine (Brian) of St. Charles, Missouri, and Sherlyn K. Hurley (Lonnie) of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother, Edwin Hostetter of Ossian, Indiana; two sisters, Dorothy Bitzell of Ossian, Indiana, and Mary Parker of Wollcottville, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers: James A., Cleon G., Merrill D., and David Hostetter.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010, at the United Methodist Church, 309 S. Walnut, Fairmount, with Reverends Amy Covington, David Schramm, Mark Carlson and John C. Hostetter officiating.
Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Masonic Rites will be held at 7:30 p.m.
