Richard Niles Knost, age 90, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at York Place Assisted Living Community, Marion.
Richard was born November 13, 1928 in Jackson County Indiana, the son of the late James and Mary (Enochs) Knost. He married Phyllis Shinn on August 27, 1950, she preceded him in death.
Richard served his country in the United States Army and also the United States Air Force Reserve. He held an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and was also a Real Estate broker. Richard retired from the maintenance department at Fisher Body. He also sold “space”, (advertising), for the Chronicle Tribune. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Marion and was also a member of the Methodist Men’s Club. When he was younger he was an Eagle Scout and eventually became Scout Master. Richard was an advisor for Jr. Achievement in Marion. He also enjoyed being a Ham radio operator.
Richard is survived by three sons, James Frederick (Dyana Neal) Knost, Baltimore, MD, Phillip Niles (Mary) Knost, Ormond Beach, FL, and Kurt Michael (Jayme) Knost, Andrews, MD; five daughters, Karen Gale (Michael) Mundt, Sulphur, LA, Vicki Sue (Harvey) Mims, Snelllville, GA, Cathy (Rex) Lane, Marion, IN, Ellen Kay (Randy) Whittenberger, Ellicott City, MD, Julie Gay (John) Wright, Noblesville, IN: Nineteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and a special friend Marguerite Murrell: three brothers-n-law John Shinn, Marion, IN, William (Carolee) Shinn, Ft. Wayne, IN, Robert Shinn, Olmstead Falls, OH and one sister-n-law, Jane (Tim Mock) Shinn, Houston, TX and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Knost, James Knost and Raymond Knost.
Friends and family may call from 2:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 29, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, 624 S Adams Street, Marion, Indiana 46953. Calling will be held one hour prior to services on Monday.
