Richard John Shedlak

Richard John Shedlak, age 89, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015, at Owen Valley Health Campus, Spencer, Indiana.
Richard was born November 15, 1925, in Gary, Indiana, the son of the late Vincent and Mary (Hathazy) Shedlak. He married Gloria Benoit on September 9, 1950, and she preceded him in death on March 8, 2008.
Richard attended Purdue University and then was an electrical engineer at RCA for 31 years until his retirement. He was also a United States Navy veteran, serving on LST-551 in the Mediterranean Theatre during WWII.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He was also a member of the United States LST Association and other WWII Veterans Groups. Richard enjoyed following national and world news and was a big band music enthusiast.
Survivors include two sons: Curtis (Ann) Shedlak of Spencer, Indiana, and Charles (the late Cathy Pieronek) Shedlak of South Bend, Indiana; daughter, Cynthia Durkes of Marion, Indiana; grandchildren, Craig Shedlak of Indianapolis, Indiana, Megan Shedlak of Bloomington, Indiana, Daniel Durkes of San Diego, California, Nathan Durkes of Lafayette, Indiana, and Brendan Durkes of Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Theodore and Vincent Shedlak.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana, with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating.
Burial will be in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
