Robert F. Curran, age 90 of Marion, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Suite Living with his wonderful caregivers.
Robert was born on October 22, 1926 in Marion, Indiana the son of the late Glen T. Curran and Ruby E. (Waggoner) Curran. He married Barbara Bruning on September 1, 1948, and she survives.
He received his degree in Finance from Babson College in Boston. Robert was an active Marion Native and businessman serving as a YMCA President, and a member of the Old Mecca Club, Masonic Lodge, Aero Club, Marion Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Meshingomesia Country Club, and was a director on the Board of the Old First National Bank (now Salin Bank) for over 50 years.
Robert was in the U.S. Army and served as part of the Occupation Force in Japan after WWII. He became president of the Curran Roofing Company, Inc. at the time of his father’s passing in 1952 and served in that capacity until 1983, becoming Chairman of the Board of Directors until the company’s closing in 2012.
He is known to his friends as an avid fly fisherman and fly tier. His second home was on the Au Sable River in Grayling, Michigan, where he enjoyed family “coming and going” for over 35 years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara Curran; daughter, Catherine (Dr. James) Fisher of Aurora, Colorado; son, G. Todd Curran (Linda) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Sarah Madson (Torben) of Apalachicola, Florida, Jen Sieve (Jeff) of Kansas City, Kansas, Kelly Shaffer (Troy) of Aurora, Colorado, Jaime Hanson (Nathan) of Milan, Indiana, Kristin Stallings (Dr. Brett) of Bixby, Oklahoma, Tara Griffiths (Dr. Daniel) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Kate Irwin (Ben) of Kansas City, Kansas; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may call from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2017 in Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Memorial Services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.
