Robert E McCoy Sr., age 88, of Marion, passed away Sunday January 25, 2015, at Marion General Hospital.
Robert was born July 22, 1926 in Gas City, Indiana, the son of Carl and Freida (Lehman) McCoy. Bob was a WWII veteran, serving his country from 1944-1946. Bob married the love of his life, Phyllis Waggy, in 1952. Bob and Phyllis spent 62 wonderful years together raising their family, building two homes together, and traveling to 46 states, including several trips to Las Vegas. Bob installed the first residential pool in Grant County in the McCoy home in 1960, and was proud to have his accomplishment featured in the Chronicle Tribune. Bob's years of dedicated hard work included delivering milk and working at Slick Glass, all while working at the Marion VA, where he retired in 1982. Bob was also a self-employed excavator and volunteered his time and equipment in the development of the Gas City Park. He had a love for animals, especially his dogs, all of which he named Lady. He enjoyed model trains, gardening, and loved spending time at his pond. Many of his friends and family will treasure the memories made sitting around the table at "McCoy's Tavernacle" playing cards and enjoying a bowl of Bob's famous Riffle Soup. He was a member of the American Legion, the Gas City Moose, and the VFW.
