Ron Shaffer

Ron Shaffer, age 74, passed away peacefully at 9:29 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010, at home.
Ron was born on April 10, 1936, in Marion, Indiana, the son of the late Frank and Mary (Pence) Shaffer. He married JoAnn Nelson on February 19, 1954. She survives.
He worked in management at Marion Malleable Iron Works and then as a core maker at Dalton Foundries. Ron had also worked at First National Bank and the Shell Station on 2nd. Street. He retired from the foundries after working 45 years.
Ron enjoyed bird watching, gardening, hiking, bowling, sports and watching westerns.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Shaffer of Marion, Indiana; son, Ronald L. Shaffer II (Janet) of Marion, Indiana; daughter, Cindy Timmons of Portage, Indiana; sister, Shirley Hightchew (Larry) of New Castle, Indiana; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, H. Willadene Purvis.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2010, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with the Pastor Terry Bishir officiating.
Burial will be in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 12 at the Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
