Ronald “Ron” R. Thompson Sr. 73, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday June 29, 2024, with his family by his side.

Ron was born on Monday, November 27, 1950, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL to the late DeOrr S. and Mary P. Candy Thompson Richardson. Ron graduated from Marion High School in 1971. On January 19, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart Cathy E. Haynes Thompson. They were married 43 years when she passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2015. Ron dedicated many years working at Big Lots until his retirement in 2009. Additionally, Ron served honorably in the United States Marine Corp., a chapter n his life he held dear. He was a former member of the Gas City Moose, and a member of The American Legion Post 313, Fairmount.

Ron had a strong passion for music and painting. He was known for his countless stories, kind heart, infectious smile, and his love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his children Aimee (Chris) Carter, Ron Thompson Jr., Ashlee Wright and his special grandson Michael (Kristen) Thompson whom he raised since the age of two.

His grandchildren: Alyssa (Matt) Eakins, Alaynee (Tommy) Swygart, Jessalyn (Matt) Riddle, Hadlee Thompson, Justice McClure, Samara Thompson, Anthony (AJ) Howell, Johnathon Thompson, Adrian Wright and Andrew Wright.

His great grandchildren: Ryder Eakins, Alivia Riddle, Lexington Swygart, Onias Thompson, Rylynn Eakins, Phoenyx Thompson, Arya Dorsey, Addilynn Eakins, Brantley Eakins, Aviree Riddle, and Madilyn Riddle.

His adopted children: Leah Woolsey, Lynnette Thompson, Calvin Brown and Shane Mundy.

His sisters, Joan Welch and Janet (Ronald) Leech, special niece, Rhonda Rapsinski, Sister-in-law Tammi Cunningham, Brother-in-law Mike (Debi) Haynes, several nieces and nephews, special friends Valerie and Erik Enyeart.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cathy, Mother-in-law Barbara Stewart, Fathers-in-law, Paul Cunningham, Jim Stewart, and Robert Haynes, grandsons, Isiah and Joshua and his best friend Danny Enyeart.

The family would like to thank Lori Sanders at LifeStream Services, Home Helpers of Forth Wayne, Former Nurses Richie and Kim King, Jamie Lang, and Heart to Heart Hospice, especially Mike, Courtney, and Jennifer. We will be forever grateful for each and every one of you for the outstanding care you showed for our dad.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be Friday July 5, 2024, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W Kem Rd., Marion, Indiana 46952. A Celebration of Life Service will begin following visitation at 5:00. Pastor John Key will officiate.
