Ruth (Wert) Carter, age 92, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Marion General Hospital , Marion, Indiana.
Ruth was born on June 21, 1919, in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of the late William and Katherine (Schaefer) Wert. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School.
Ruth married Weston Carter and they were married for 50 years. She lived most of her life in Buffalo, New York, but had lived in Marion as a resident of Northwood Manor for the last 8 years.
Ruth worked at Western Electric and was chairman and volunteer of many committees, retiring in the late 1970's. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a past member of the Betsy Ross Chapter #695 Order of the Eastern Star; Ladies of The Oriental Shrine; and White Shrine. She was a past president of the Unity Council #6; Universal Council of Engineers; past Grand Worthy President of Universal Council of Engineers; past president of Western Electric Telephone Pioneers; and a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Buffalo, New York.
Survivors include Daughter, Nancy (Robert) Walker; Daughter-in-Law, Millie Carter; Grandchildren, Linda (Don) Sheliga, Mark Walker, Amy (Jeff) Glick, Matt (Stephanie) Carter, and Dawn (Chris) Nichols; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Weston Carter, a son, Reverend David J. Carter, her twin sister, Nell Ineson, sister, Betty Rolfe, and brother, Herb Wert.
Cremation will take place and services will be private.
