Samuel E. "Sam" Columbus

June 1, 1939 — March 19, 2010

Samuel E. "Sam" Columbus, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 10:45 a.m. while surrounded by family.

Sam retired from the Marion General Motors Plant in 1993 where he was a production worker for 27 years. He had a great love for his family and friends. When he was able, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and camping. He also loved spending time traveling and going to Beaver Dam Lake with his wife Cindy. He was known for his amazing and infectious smile and he had a great zest for life.

He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Cindy Thorne Columbus of Marion, Indiana; three sons, Kevin Columbus of Marion, Indiana, Troy Columbus of Fairmount, Indiana, and Monte Columbus of Gas City, Indiana; two daughters, Tara Eltzworth of Fairmount, Indiana, and Sheila Warren (Don) of Winchester, Virginia; three brothers, Donnie Columbus (Connie) of Fairmount, Indiana, Tony Columbus (Pat) of Gas City, Indiana, and Perry Columbus of Marion, Indiana; three sisters, Sara McCoy (Bob) of Marion, Indiana, Mary Smith of Upland, Indiana, and Sue Swafford of Jonesboro, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and lots of nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Columbus and Neda Lowden Columbus Noggle, his step-father, Ray Noggle and father-in-law, Robert Thorne.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana on Saturday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Nanci Rosinski officiating. Visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time.
