Sara E. Brown

January 15, 1927 — December 11, 2021

Sara E. Brown, age 94 of Marion passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion.

Sara was born on January 15, 1927 in Hanfield, Indiana the daughter of the late Waldo and Margaret (Patterson) Harrell.   She was a graduate of the Van Buren High School Class of 1945.  She married Donald W. Brown on May 12, 1950, and he preceded her in death.   They became Marion Giants as soon as they married and had season basketball tickets forever.

She was the first woman hired on the assembly line at Crosley.  She also worked as a school cook at Fremont, Washington Township and Allen Schools.  The family took family vacations all over the United States including Disneyland and Disney World.  Sara was always on the go and met with retirees at McDonalds regularly, went to the Crosley Reunions in Ohio, Wysong reunions, Brown family reunions and loved family cookouts.  She loved to play golf at the Elks Country Club, going to softball games at Matter Park and all over Grant County.   Sara also enjoyed going to rummage sales and flea markets.

She was a huge fan of historical fiction and loved reading about history and taking photos.  She went to Historical Society meetings and was a regular at Mississinewa 1812.  She enjoyed collecting stamps and researching coins because of the U.S. history connections.

Mom was a great cook and had baked great pies.  She also liked knitting with her Home Economics Club to donate hats to Marion Community Schools Elementary Buildings.   Sara was a member of the Happy Homemakers for 68 years and attended Christland United Methodist Church in Marion.

She is survived by daughters, Rebecca Stewart and Kathy Taylor, both of Marion; granddaughters, Lydia (Ralph Tector) Stewart, Alicia Stewart, and Katelinn Taylor; great-granddaughters, Harper Hillenburg, Flannery Hillenburg and Carter Elizabeth Taylor; and bonus grandchildren, Chris Anderson, Lori and Mike Healy, and Jeff and Susie Anderson; and honorary great-grandchildren, Lewie Anderson and Vivian and Keller Healy.
