Sherry L. Carroll, age 50, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 in her home surrounded by her family.
Sherry was born on February 21, 1966 in Marion, Indiana. She came into this world with mountains to climb and she did that well. Sherry was born with Spina Bifida and raised in the foster care system. These life experiences helped her to develop into the strong, brave, and stubborn woman she became. Sherry spoke her mind when she needed to and found great humor in her challenges, with laughter and giggles.
Sherry was a graduate of Blackford High School. In 2009, (on April Fools Day), she met the love of her life, Mitch Carroll. After a short “courtship” they were married on May 15, 2010. Those who knew them saw and felt the unconditional love they had for each other. A love that is so rare. Sherry and Mitch have taught us what it is to be brave, to find joy in small things, and what family means even if they aren’t biological.
Sherry was a delight even though she had those mountains to climb being in a wheel chair most of her life. She was a great sport giving as good as she got and laughing. Sherry enjoyed watching football with her husband; being part of Special Olympics, participating in bowling, and playing softball on the Challenger Team. Most treasured times were when she ventured to Michigan to meet her special extended family and the quiet “walks” she and Mitch would take.
Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Mitch Carroll of Gas City; her “Mom”, Kay Carroll of Fairmount; uncle, Ed Dodson of Marion; father-in-law, Bill (Kim) Carroll of Kentucky; step-mother, Jeannie Swafford; brothers, Pete (Shae) Swafford, and Garrett (April) Swafford; Shane (Jennifer) Moore; Brad (Laura) Dodson; Trinity Moore; Carson, Ireland and Ryder Dodson; and many loving cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her aunt, Ginnie Dodson, and cousins, Todd Hamilton and Fred Houghton.
The family will be forever grateful to Help At Home, Heart to Heart Hospice and her special friends at Quality Care Ambulance for their loving care they provided to Mitch and Sherry. Also, to the special people in Sherry’s life, Angie Mallott, Tasha Quakenbush, and Carolyn Tighe.
Friends and family may call from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 in Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Memorial Services to celebrate Sherry’s life will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating.
