Stella M. Niebauer

August 18, 1930 — August 3, 2018

Stella M. Niebauer, age 87, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at Heritage Pointe, Warren, Indiana.

Stella was born August 18, 1930 in Millersburg, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Viola (O’Meara) McDermott. She married Dale R. Niebauer on September 30, 1950. They were married for 47 years.  Stella was a homemaker and raised their eight children. Dale preceded her in death on December 28, 1997.

She was a long time member of St. Paul Catholic Church, and also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post 313, Fairmount, Indiana. She enjoyed volunteering at Marion General Hospital, Saint Martin De Porres, also in the cafeteria at St. Paul Elementary. Stella played golf at Shady Hills Golf Club and enjoyed playing euchre, dancing and traveling to new places. Among the many places she visited were Ireland, The Black Hills, Cayman Islands, and Myrtle Beach. While living in Florida she went on many “mystery” day trips. She often said that, “If you had gas in your tank you weren’t lost, you were touring!” Reading was also one her favorite things to do. Clive Cussler was her favorite author; she probably read every book he had written. Greeting cards were very special to her; she kept every card that was ever given to her. Most of all, she loved to be near her family, who she loved very much.

Stella is survived by 4 sons, Stephen (Josephine) Niebauer, Oscoda, MI; Mark (Kathleen) Niebauer, Cleveland, OH; Matt Niebauer, Van Buren, IN; Dan (Angela) Niebauer, Huntington, IN; 4 daughters, Barbara (Jeff) Denham, Marion, IN; Mary (Jess) Bunker, Bradenton, FL; Jean Marie (companion Mark Cooper) Niebauer, Upland, IN; and Judy (companion Ray Brown) Ricks, Marion, IN; 2 brothers, Charles McDermott, Goodrich, MI; James Patrick (Martha Sue) McDermott, Pontiac, MI;  2 sisters, Carol (Dan) Silvis, Bradenton, FL; and  Connie (Steven) Lindquist, Standish, MI; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Niebauer, and 2 sisters, Marion Sue Young and Sandra Jean Mangrum.
