Surrounded by family, Steve peacefully passed away Sunday morning, after a four-year illness.
Steve is survived by his wife of 34 years, Catherine Ramey of Summitville, Indiana; children, Marcus Fernandes of Marion, Indiana, Jane Kelly of Summitville, Indiana, and Julie (James) Doepken of Seward, Alaska; mother, Marcella Ramey of Marion, Indiana; sister, Paula Berg of Marion, Indiana; nephew, Shay Ramey; special cousin, Deborah Hoss; and nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. Steve had 15 grandchildren who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, John Ramey, and his brother, Mark Ramey.
As a child, Steve played little league baseball and loved playing games with neighborhood friends. He was a very good freehand artist and excelled at woodworking and enjoyed making bird feeders. He loved gardening, tending his yard, hunting and fishing, especially salmon fishing in Alaska. He loved the Colts, NASCAR, and IU Basketball. Before retiring, he was a member of the Carpenters' Union, Local 615.
Steve was a giving man. He cared deeply for family, his very close friends, and would do anything for anyone. He had a unique laugh, a huge smile, and his eyes always had a glimmer. He wished to be remembered as he was. A private memorial will be held at a later date with family and close friends.
Arrangements entrusted to Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
