Steven L. Johnson

September 14, 1952 — July 21, 2019

Steven L. Johnson, a gift from God, peacefully closed his eyes on July 21, 2019 at his country home, to awaken in the arms of Jesus for eternity, where the Son always shines and the roses never fade.  Steve loved Jesus, his family, friends and his LaFontaine Christian Church family, where he served as an Elder, taught Sunday school and led a bible study.  Steve also led a bible study in Ft. Wayne.  He always carried his bible with him.  When at rest, one would find him with his hands folded in prayer.  Steve was a very quiet, soft spoken gentleman, and certainly a servant of God.

Steve enjoyed the simple things in life, never taking them for granted and often expressing how grateful and thankful he was for them.  Steve was absolutely devoted to and loved his wife Robin for 45 years (September 22, 1973), showering her with bouquets of red roses and surprises galore.  They were always together, hand in hand, with smiling hearts.  He also loved and taught their daughter, Dr. Kelly E. Klinker (Ft. Wayne) through the years leading by example; and was immensely pleased with her accomplishments.  His son-in-law, MJ Klinker, (Ft. Wayne) also survives.  Steve loved MJ as though he was a son.

Steve delighted in summer evening drives with his wife, autumn trips to Asheville, North Carolina, jelly beans, snow, and his granddaughters, Paige and Adeline Klinker (Ft. Wayne), who fondly called him “Poppy”; and he loved it!  When the girls visited, his heart smiled, especially when it was bible story and teddy bear tea party time.

Steve was raised by loving parents, Robert E. and Hazel F. Reed, (Wabash).  His mother Hazel survives.  They loved him and supported his dreams and upon college graduation, Steve’s love and desire for architectural design came to fruition.  He was employed and a partner at Design Consultants, Inc. for 44 years.

A private family farewell was held at Steve’s bedside with MJ Klinker presiding.  Granddaughter Paige lovingly read Psalm 23 from her Poppy’s bible as granddaughter Adeline placed red roses upon his folded hands.  Mathew 25:23…..well done, good and faithful servant.  Psalm 30:5…..weeping may come for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

Interment was at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, LaFontaine, Indiana.  Memorials may be entrusted to the LaFontaine Christian Church building fund.  The family would like to thank the prayer warriors from around the world for their prayers and love.  The family also extends heartfelt appreciation to Cynthia M. Clore, George and Linda Ralston, Mike Acord, Laurali Acord, Gary and Donna Nose, Leonard Wynk, Sherry Cox, Earl and Josie Clore and Tom and Katherine Borchard, and countless others.

Arrangements entrusted to Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
