VERA SELMA BROWN, age 94, of Marion died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Wesleyan Health Care Center, Marion.
Mrs. Brown was born on January 3, 1914, in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Selma Marie Swanson Morris. She married Albert Bonner Brown on July 24, 1938. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1981.
Mrs. Brown worked as a clerk at the former Paranite Wire and Cable, Marion, Indiana. She was an avid bridge player and participated in many bridge clubs and events over the years. According to her friends, she was an excellent player. Born to parents who were deaf and mute, she was very skilled in sign language and often served as an interpreter for the deaf in court hearings. She was a present member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grant County and formerly First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Indiana for a combined membership of more than seventy-one years. She was a member of the Fidelis Group; Women's Department Club; Psi Iota Xi Sorority; a fifty year member of Mississinewa Eastern Star; Hostess House; Hospital Auxiliary; American Legion Auxiliary; YMCA and numerous bridge clubs. She is survived by nephews, John Morris, Jay Morris, Dr. Robert Brown and Ronald Brown; her care-giver and long-time friend, Shirley (Dwight) Ball and her family; and dear friends, Ron and Ramona Brooks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Charles (Chalky) Morris.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church, 601 S. Main Street, Jonesboro with Reverend Lyle Ewing officiating.
Burial will be in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.
