Walter W. Ahlquist

Walter W. Ahlquist, age 75, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014, in his home.

Walter was born on August 22, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Fredrick E.O. Ahlquist and Kathryn (Scheider) Ahlquist. He married Linda Willman on March 29, 1974, and she survives.

Walter was a welder for North American Car Corporation until his retirement and was also a Army veteran.

He was a White Sox and Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed riding his bike the "Golden Nugget". He also loved spending time with his family and hiking in the mountains. Walter had been involved in the Boy Scouts of America, was a hard-working man and a handsome Sweedish boy.

The family would like to give special thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice, Gilead Ministries, Cancer Services of Grant County and their Gold Retriever Therapy Dogs.

Survivors include: wife, Linda Ahlquist of Marion, Indiana; two sons, John (Mindy) Ahlquist of Bourbonnais, Illinois; and William Ahlquist of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Lori Ahlquist-Cantway of Algonquin, Illinois; sister, Fridea Schaller of Orland Park, Illinois; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Ahlquist; and two sisters, Shirley Ahlquist-Peale and Dorothy Ahlquist.

Private Memorial Services will be held at his final resting place, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Heart to Heart Hospice; Gilead Ministries; or Cancer Services of Grant County.
