Our Loving Mother, Wanita M. Wright, age 79, of Marion, passed away peacefully at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 in her home with her family by her side.
She was born January 13, 1937 the daughter of the late Roy D. and Dorothy (Clock) Evans. She was born in Muncie, Indiana and spent most of her life in Delaware and Grant Counties. She married Charles R. Wright on July 16, 1955, and he survives.
After graduation from Gaston High School, where she was given the Oliver P. Storer Scholarship, she attended Ball State Teachers College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in education and later her Masters degree from Ball State University. She taught elementary school for 31 years starting at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona, where her husband, Charles, served in the armed forces, and the last 26 years at Riverview Elementary in Marion.
Wanita was a member of the Temple Congregational Church. She was part of Women’s Fellowship, had served on the Board of Education and the Deaconess Board. She taught Sunday school for many years.
She was also a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, and DAR. She enjoyed working on genealogy, doing crossword puzzles, reading, traveling and playing cards with a couples’ group since 1960. She and Charles loved square dancing, line dancing, and mushrooming. They spent their last 19 summers boating and enjoying life on Irish Lake. She enjoyed her grandchildren, and attending their school and athletic events.
Wanita is survived by Charles, her husband of 61 years; two daughters and one son, Deborah A. Wright, North Webster, Pamela S. (Rodney) Bolen, Upland, and Kevin D. (Angela) Wright, Upland; five grandchildren, Riley (Amanda) Boyer, Darcy Boyer, Gabrielle (Tyler) Smelser, Melanie and Ben Wright; one great-grandson, Levi Smelser; three nephews, Michael, Joe, and Darrell Evans; and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Evans.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Evans in 1983.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Temple Congregational Church, 1006 N. Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana with Pastors Jeff Jahn and Jill Miller officiating.
Burial will immediately follow funeral services at Matthews Cemetery, Matthews, Indiana.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana and one hour prior to services in the church.
