William H. Purkey, age 85, of Marion, Indiana, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Hospice Home in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
He was born September 20, 1929, in Hawkins County, Tennessee, the son of the late Louis and Dolly (Green) Purkey. He was with his wife for 53 years. William worked at Foster Forbes in maintenance until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of the Slate Hill Baptist Church in Tennessee, and loved to garden and was an all-around handyman. William enjoyed watching baseball and spending time with his family
He is survived by his wife, Jo Purkey of Marion, Indiana; a son, Douglas (Jamie) Purkey of Lancaster, S. Carolina; a daughter, Tami Barnett of Marion, Indiana; two sisters, Ruby Helton and JoAnn Sullivan, both of Tennessee; 4 grandchildren, Meghan Purkey of Sigonella, Scicly, Brian Shrout of Marion, Indiana, James Shrout of Golden, Colorado and Johnathan Shrout of Marion, Indiana; close family friends, Ruth and P.J. Holmes of Marion, Indiana; a host of nieces and nephews, and honorary daughter, Kuba Curtis.
He was also preceded in death by ten siblings.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with Reverend Marion Bush officiating.
Burial will follow funeral services in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home prior to funeral services.
